Nickel is the chief constituent of a number of non-ferrous alloys which are used in special applications in aircraft work.
The main feature common to all of these alloys is their good corrosion resistance.
Monel
-It can be only cold worked
-Monel is a high nickel copper alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and high strength
-Monel used in aircraft industry are in the form of rivet, bolts, nuts, lockwire and the
manufacture of Dzus fastener grommets
-Its toughness and excellent resistance to attack of corrosive medium are valuable qualities
Inconel
-Combining excellent resistance to high temperature oxidation with a high resistance to many
types of corrosion
-Inconel welds readily and gives a strong ductile weld which resists corrosion
-The heat treatment consists only of an annealing which will relieve internal stresses due to
cold working and soften the metal
Nimonic
-Possess good fatigue properties
‘K’ Monel
-This alloy is often used in the vicinity of instrument panel
Inconel ‘X’
-It is used for gas turbine rotor blades and wheels, after burners and ram jets
