There are two main classes of aluminum alloy:
o Wrought alloys
o Cast alloys
Cast alloys;-has grain structure that is very coarse thus metal is brittle. Used in the construction of aircraft wheel castings, engine crankcases, gearboxes
Wrought alloys:-Most aircraft part are wrought alloys. Metals that are used as the principal alloying elements in wrought aluminum alloy :
1.silicon
2.magnesium
3.zinc
4. manganese
APPLICATION OF ALUMINIUM ALLOYS

CLADDING OF ALUMINIUM ALLOY
Sheet of aluminium alloy are clad with a thin layer of pure aluminium with 1% zinc on both sides. These layers are permanently welded to the base material in a rolling process at high temperature.Other than electroplated stock, clad material can be formed. The thickness of the clad layers is about 3 or 5% of the material thickness. An ink print on US sheet that reads Alclad indicates that such sheet is clad.
